To be successfully treated, sudden hearing loss requires immediate medical attention.
Call your physician or seek immediate medical attention if you experience sudden hearing loss (SHL).
Once you have seen your physician, you can then treat any longer-term hearing loss.

How Sudden Hearing Loss Occurs
Sudden Hearing Loss causes damage to hair cells and can sometimes lead to permanent hearing loss. Hearing Aids may provide effective treatment for this type of hearing loss.
Sudden Hearing Loss is a sensorineural loss (inner ear damage). It tends to occur suddenly or develop over a few hours. You can experience a sudden hearing loss in varying degrees – from mild to acute.
Factors Causing Sudden Hearing Loss
Many factors can lead to SHL, such as
- Infections head trauma
- Autoimmune disorders
- Other neurological disorders
Sometimes the cause of the hearing loss can’t be identified.
If your hearing loss symptoms have persisted for a long period of time, you may already have suffered a hearing loss.
Tinnitus with Sudden Hearing Loss
Sometimes Tinnitus can complicate sudden hearing loss. If you suffer from tinnitus and sudden hearing loss, special functions in your hearing aid (known as noisers) can compensate for your loss and for the ringing from Tinnitus.
Remember, to be successfully treated, sudden hearing loss requires immediate medical attention.
